Deer Lodge

Original watercolour, with pen & ink, 8X8",  depicting tipis of the style built by Blackfoot (Siksika) people of southern Alberta. The ranch I grew up on was sprinkled with the tipi rings left on ridges and coulees overlooking the Bow River.  The artistic design of each tipi reflects the story given in a dream to the creator of the design, and are passed down through the matriarchal line. I think tipis are some of the most beautiful creations there are, and cannot explain the feeling of reverence the very sight of one brings up in me.   

This painting has been dry-mounted on a cradle board and protected with UV-shielding varnish.  Ready to hang.
