The Cypress Hills. located in SE Alberta & SW Saskatchewan, were created when the last glaciers slid around them, instead of grinding them down with the rest of the countryside. They now remain as the highest point between the great Lakes and the Rockies.
This painting is of the plateau at the top of the hills, known by all of us as “The Bench”. The dramatic sky is typical…the natives didn’t call these “The Thunder-Breeding Hills” for nothing! Besides dramatic weather, these hills boast 220 bird species, countless rare wildflowers and incredible wildlife.
There’s magic in them there hills!
