There was a big team-roping in town on the Labour Day weekend, and because my nieces were roping, I went along to hang out. There were hundreds of people, many old friends included, and of course, there were a lot of horses. My idea of a real good time. There’s so much to enjoy about the western aesthetic. Every rider has individual touches to their dress, and their tack. You’ll see handbraiding, horsehair hitching, silver conchos, spots, buckles, spurs, bits, and every other excuse for the use of silver. There’s rawhide inlay, roughout, or smooth leather, OR hair-on leather. Tooling on saddles is beyond beautiful, and is combined with rawhide, silver lacing and inlaid hand carved conchos & cantle plates. Art is all around us….we just need to keep our eyes open.
