Finally got back into my studio today, and here’s what happened. I painted in a sky. Starting at the top, I used vertical strokes to represent the light of that early morning. Pulling the sky colours right through the riders and the ground they’re standing on will help prevent the figures from looking as if they’ve been pasted on. Also I wanted a loose and exaggerated sky to balance the crisp-edged silhouettes of the riders. We’ll see how that goes tomorrow.
