Grandma Armstrong

In the spirit of renewal, I’ve been going through mountains of old photos and turfing  the dead wood.  I came across one of my grandmother, and decided that I needed to paint her.
Born in 1898,  she came to Canada from Missouri with her family when she was about 12. As a girl she was fun-loving and daring to the extent that she rode race horses.  She married  George Armstrong and ranched with him in the Cypress Hills where they raised their family. As grandparents there are none finer than the 2 of them. I marvel at the resilience of people of their generation; they were born into the horse-and-buggy era, yet lived to see the space shuttle. And they did so with wisdom and grace.
