Downy Woodpecker

Well this guy showed up again today, and when he gets in the feed bunk, he stays…and runs everybody else off till he’s had his fill! These small woodpeckers (a little smaller than a robbin) are odd little characters. Check out the frilly feathers around the beak, down his back and along the tummy; very unique to this bird I think.  Love the dots and bars on the wings, and the jaunty red cap (boys only). There were some pretty p.o.’d chickadees today, and the grocery bill is going to be high, but he’s pretty entertaining all the same.
