Kramer

Time to switch it up and do a doggie portrait.  What’s Christmas without our mutts and cats, horses and ….frogs? …..ot whatever kind of animal your house shelters.  This is Kramer, a beloved member of my friend Terry’s family. Each pet brings it’s own magic formula of mayhem and delight.  Merry Christmas to all the pets in the world.                        SOLD

Che-Che

This little Ewok-lookalike is another family dog!  My son and his fiance have 2 dogs, and this little prize package is a Brussell-Griffon named Che-Che.  She has had to endure the new acquisition in the family, a French Bulldog pup named Sooky,(see blog entry, August 17th).  Evidently Sookie is now 20 lbs and has been known to sit on poor Che-Che!

Despite all of this, this charming little mutt maintains a happy and  affectionate attitude.

Valentina

My good friend Kim has 2 miniature Dachshund “grand dogs”, and this one right here is the famous “Valentina”.  I had the pleasure of their company for a week in October, and what fun it was.  She and her little sister “Oceana” are busy as one-armed paper-hangers, hilariously funny and so smart that they’re fluent in both English and Italian.  The only person totally unimpressed by ANYthing they did…was Possum (see past blog entries under “feline”).

A toast to Toast

Today’s painting is a second portrait of my little buddy Toast. Having owned a Boston Terrier in the past, I have such affection for this bouncy little breed. They’re so tidy, trim and athletic in their little tuxedos, and so incredibly comical in every single thing they do.  Lets have a toast to Toast, and all the other little bulldogs in my life.  You know who you are!

Off to Town

I thought I’d try my hand at cartooning; using the work of my friends Ben Crane and Ash Cooper as inspiration, this is what I came up with today.  It was a lot of fun….once I got the darn truck drawn. It has a lot of my favourite things in it; gravel roads, dogs, old trucks, cowboy hats, and road trips!! However, I think Ben’s and Ash’s jobs are safe!

Poppy

This is the precious pooch known as Poppy!  She’s the loyal, hilarious and extremely intelligent companion of my friend Sharon. She’s also darn beautiful, with her mauve and blue colouring, her funky hair-do and those bright eyes. Always an animal-lover, the older I get, the more I realize how absolutely incredible are their contributions to the quality of life for all of us humans.

Coda

Eventually, we’ll get all the family dogs in….and the dogs of my friends. This precious pooch belongs to my brother Tom and his family, and he’s about as sweet as a fella can get.  Tom’s a big gnarly farmer, so it’s pretty funny to see him driving around in his farm truck with this fluffy dog resting his chin on Tom’s shoulder! Here’s Coda,  happily enjoying Grandma’s chair. And Grandma? She went and sat somewhere else.

Toast

My nephew Ross, and his wife Steph have 2 bouncing Boston Bull Terriers, one of whom has appeared on this blog before (See Hughie, May 10th).
Well this is his buddy, “Toast”, and the liveliness of this guy is belied by this quiet pose.  I caught him napping!   What ever would we do without our animal companions?

Molly

The good friend who owns yesterday’s miniature donkeys also owns “Molly” this beautiful Wire Haired Terrier.  I think Molly’s the only Wire Hair that I’ve even known personally, and she is indeed a character.  These dogs are bred to chase rats and other rodents, so she’s hell-on-wheels with the gopher population. ( My sister-in-law should consider this breed for HER next dog since her “Bear” is so useless in that department!)
I loved painting Molly;  her coats is multicoloured, crinkly, wavy and fringy all at once. What a distinguished face, and how about those eyebrows?!

Sooki

This French Bulldog pup is the latest edition to my son’s new little family.  On a recent visit to them in Ontario, I got to “hang” with Sooki (and the rest of the gang) and now I want a “Frenchie” of my own!
