Here’s a pen of bucking horses….so attractive to me because of the variety of colour, shape and size. Many world champion bucking horses are Canadian, due in part to the strength and size derived from a hefty dose af draft horse breeding in the original blood lines. Lately though, stock contractors and the Calgary Stampede are making concerted efforts to breed their best bucking mares to equally talented studs. The results have been quite spectacular, and we’re seeing more conformity in size and colouring, and less of the “wild and wooly” looks of the broncs of yesteryear. Again, I don’t always like “progress” .
