Belly River Autumn

One of the many treasures of our beautiful  Southern Alberta  river sustems, is the Belly River.  With headwaters in Glacier Park in Montana, it winds it’s way north across “The Medicine Line” near Chief Mountain (see my blog entry Feb 4th), and winds up flowing into Hudson’s Bay as part of the South  Saskatchewan. Along the way, it joins and is joined by the Waterton, Oldman and Bow Rivers.  Named from the native word for stomach, it was originally the “Mokowan”.  In this painting it meanders near the tiny town of Hillspring, just a few miles N.E. of Waterton National Park.
