I seldom paint from anyone else`s photographs or references, but my `West`magazine came this week with this familiar outlaw`s face on the cover, and I had to paint him. I had a hard time getting the drawing right…he looked like a monkey, until I realized how very wide and flat his head is. And look how snarly he is! We have a bit of family lore around badgers and our war-like relationship with them (have you ever had your horse fall beneath you into a badger hole!)
